If you or a member of your family is an honorably discharged veteran who
served at least ninety days active duty and one day during a period of wartime
(the definition of "wartime" may be broader than you think), and if you are in
an assisted living facility or are spending several hundred dollars a month or
more on the cost of your health care (including in-home care), then you may
qualify for benefits under the VA Aid and Attendance Pension Program.
A veteran may be eligible for almost $2,000 per month in additional tax free
income. A widowed spouse or dependant could receive a little over $1,000 per
month.
This is not just a program for low income veterans! Any veteran or widowed
spouse who is in a nursing home, assisted living or in need of in-home care may
be eligible.
